Project CEMAPRE internal

TitleApplications of statistical methods in education research
ParticipantsAdriana Cornea-Madeira (Principal Investigator), Nuno Crato
SummaryBuilding on the previous phases of this research program, the 2025 project continues the analysis of
International Large Scale Assessment (ILSA) studies, with a particular focus on statistical
methodologies for assessing educational outcomes. The release of PISA 2022 and PIRLS 2021 has
provided a wealth of data, and this project aims to refine the understanding of the statistical
relationships between education policies, socioeconomic factors, and student performance.
A key methodological contribution of this phase will be an in-depth exploration of the statistical
methods (such as the Difference-in-Differences, DiD) in educational studies. The project will result
in a collective book featuring contributions from invited researchers, showcasing applications of
statistical methods in various ILSA contexts. By fostering international collaboration, the project
will further enhance the robustness of comparative education studies and provide policy-relevant
insights into post-pandemic education challenges.
