TitleStatistical Analysis and Quantification of the Dynamics of Ascending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms
ParticipantsAlda Carvalho (Principal Investigator), Rodrigo Valente, José Xavier
SummaryThoracic aortic aneurysm is a disease with an incidence of about 5-10/100,000 persons per year.
There are two factors considered to be redominant: genetic and hemodynamic. Numerical simulations
for haemodynamic in thoracic aortic aneurysm will be analysed. This project will concentrate
efforts on the statistical survey of the uncertain modelling parameters and on the identification of
the most adequate strategy for uncertainty quantification and model validation.

This project will be developed in tight collaboration with the team members developing the numerical
modelling and collecting data from imaging and ex-vivo measurements. The test and validation of the
attained model predictions are assessed upon reference data, providing insight on the accuracy and
validity to support clinical decisions. This task is thought to contribute to the state-of-the-art
in uncertainty quantification and model validation, in the framework of biomedical applications.
