Title | Statistical Modelling in Higher Education Research: Prior achievement and degree completion on time |
Participants | Maria Eugénia Ferrão (Principal Investigator), Marcel T Vieira |
Summary | Stating that graduation and stopout/delaying are either "competing" or negatively correlated events, and suggesting that they should be modeled in a deterministically manner may jeopardize conclusions. Previous research showed that factors influencing timely graduation (e.g., financial aid, prior achievement, motivation) often exhibit varying effects (Ferrão, 2023a, 2023b; Ferrão et al., 2022; Ferrão & Almeida, 2019, 2021; Morais et al., 2021). Neglecting these varying effects may lead to misleading conclusions, potentially resulting in the implementation of inappropriate or inefficient policies. Our project focus on examining how the factors mentioned in previous research are institution-related to timely graduation, defined as not having an interruption or delays (Ferrão, 2022; Ferrão & Alves, 2023) in enrollments before graduating. |
