TitleOptimization under uncertainty
ParticipantsFilipe Rodrigues (Principal Investigator)
SummaryWe aim to study real-world optimization problems where some parameters are not exactly known. In
particular, we intend to study the Berth Allocation and Quay Crane Scheduling Problem (known as
BACASP) under uncertain parameters such as the arrival time of the vessels. Arrival times of
vessels are naturally uncertain parameters since they are highly affected by several factors such as
weather conditions and mechanical failures. Being the base of all port operations, the BACASP is
one of the most important problems in container terminals, which justifies the relevance of its
study. Robust optimization is one of the most popular techniques used to deal with uncertainty in
real-world problems since it allows to obtain feasible solutions taking into account the uncertain
nature of some parameters. In this research, we aim to use the most recent robust optimization
techniques to solve this problem. Moreover, in an independent research, we also aim to review,
classify, and organize all the papers published in the literature where both the berth allocation
problem and the integrated BACASP problem under uncertainty are studied.
