Abstract: I will give an informal presentation of Lai-Sang Young's method to prove statistical properties (e.g. speed of mixing and the central limit theorem) of hyperbolic dynamical systems. The method is based on the construction of an abstract dynamical system of tower type and the study of the tail distribution of certain return times.
