Abstract: We review some classic work of Birkhoff on Hilbert's projective metric on cones (Garrett Birkhoff, Extensions of Jentzsch's Theorem, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, Vol. 85, No. 1 (May, 1957), pp. 219-227), and discuss some of its applications to dynamical systems.
