Almost random works of slow variables

Vassili Gelfreich
(Warwick Mathematics Institute, Warwick University)

Abstract: In this lecture we study dynamics of a (deterministic) slow-fast Hamiltonian system assuming that the fast subsystem is chaotic. I will show that this fast chaos forces slow variables to evolve in a way which resembles a random work. The description will use symbolic dynamics and normal hyperbolicity as technical tools, and I will provide an introduction to these topics.
